African Cup of Nations Introduces Heat Breaks as Egypt Temperatures Soar

It will be very hot next week in Egypt. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40°. For players not used to playing in the heat, the African Football Confederation (CAF) is adapting its regulations.
This week, the CAF Medical Commission announced the implementation of two breaks that players can take, one in the first half and a second in the second half. "All matches will have two three-minute interruptions to preserve the well-being of the players," the CAF statement said.
These two breaks, at the 30th and 75th minutes, will allow "the players of both teams and the referees to drink and hydrate their bodies with wet towels," explains the Medical Commission.
In addition to these breaks, the organizers provide "special equipment for any emergency" during each match.
