Afghan-German Fighter Representing Morocco Wins at UFC Paris Debut

The German fighter of Afghan origin Nasrat Haqparast, who represented Morocco at the first MMA event organized by UFC Paris, at the Accor Arena on Saturday, won by unanimous decision against the veteran Canadian lightweight John Makdessi.
The judges were unanimous: 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 for Nasrat Haqparast after a fight contested almost entirely on the feet. As for John Makdessi, he was rewarded in the first round by one of the judges. In the end, the German fighter of Afghan origin representing Morocco at UFC Paris won by judges’ decision. When the decision was announced, the Canadian acknowledged his defeat and applauded.
Before the fight, Nasrat Haqparast had explained the reasons that led him to decide to represent Morocco at UFC Paris. "(I) could not find a better choice than the Moroccan flag, because Morocco has been supporting me wholeheartedly for a long time as a good athlete and Muslim," he had written in Persian on his Instagram account.
