AfDB Loans Morocco $300 Million for Agriculture and Social Protection Programs

Morocco and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have signed two loan agreements to finance a cereal farming project and the generalization of social coverage, for an amount of more than 3.1 billion dirhams.
The first agreement, amounting to 199 million euros, concerns a program to support the competitive and resilient development of cereal farming. The objective is to contribute to the implementation of reforms aimed at developing the productivity and resilience of cereal farming, in order to ensure food security and reduce dependence on cereal imports.
As for the second agreement, it amounts to 87 million euros. It aims to support the priority project of the generalization of social protection, in particular universal health coverage, the extension of the pension scheme, the generalization of family allowances and the improvement of the governance and efficiency of the social protection system.
