Achraf Hakimi's Injury: 2 Months Out, Morocco Holds Its Breath for the 2025 AFCON

The verdict is in for Achraf Hakimi, and it confirms Morocco’s fears. The day after his injury during the Champions League match against Bayern Munich, the medical diagnosis specifies the nature of his ankle injury and the duration of his unavailability.

The Moroccan international underwent examinations this Wednesday, November 5th in the morning. According to information from the Spanish press, he does not suffer from a ruptured ankle ligament. The diagnosis indicates a "tear of the syndesmosis with a slight involvement of the deltoid".

This injury, although serious, will not require surgery. The player, who left the Parc des Princes with crutches and an orthopedic boot, will however be unavailable for about two months. This is a blow for PSG, who will have to do without him for the upcoming Champions League matches against Tottenham and Athletic Bilbao.

A race against time for the 2025 AFCON

This two-month unavailability places Morocco in a very difficult situation. The Africa Cup of Nations, organized on Moroccan soil, starting on December 21, Hakimi’s participation is highly compromised.

Barring a surprise or exceptionally rapid recovery, it is certain that he will miss the entire group stage, where Morocco will face the Comoros, Mali and Zambia. If Walid Regragui decided to take the risk of selecting him, he could, at best, hope for a return for the round of 16 (early January) or the quarter-finals, provided the team qualifies without him.
