Accor Expands Hotel Presence in Morocco Ahead of 2030 World Cup
Wednesday 31 January 2024, by
Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal whets the appetite of the French hotel group Accor, which plans to expand its offer in the kingdom.
Two years to strengthen its offer in Morocco. This is the short-term objective set by Accor. "In the short term, we are constantly on the lookout for Morocco, either in conversion or in construction," explained Patrick Mendes, its Managing Director Europe & North Africa, to Moroccan journalists received at the group’s headquarters in Paris. In other words, Accor wants to modernize its hotels and offer new products. This group, which owns 53 brands including 11 brands in Morocco, plans to increase its network by about ten hotels. Mercure, Tribe, Mövenpick and Handwritten are among the new brands that will be developed, reports Médias24. Accor is interested in tourist cities like Dakhla, Tangier, Kénitra, Ouarzazate and Fez.
The strengthening of Accor’s offer is explained by the attractiveness of Morocco. "Morocco’s attractiveness is reinforced by its tourism dynamics, the investments made or planned, the Investment Charter, the major sporting events to come and the image of Morocco, especially after the Qatar World Cup," explained Hamid Benthahar, CEO Accor Management Morocco & executive vice-president AccorHotels in Morocco. The kingdom will host the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2025 and co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
