Abdelkader Secteur Morocco Tour Canceled After Boycott Campaign

The curtains will remain closed for the “Marhaba” show. Faced with a digital backlash calling for Algerian artists not to be welcomed in the current political context, the organizers canceled all the dates scheduled across the Kingdom.

The measure concerns tomorrow’s show, February 6 in Casablanca, as well as those planned at the Mohammed V Theater in Rabat (February 8), the Mohammed VI Theater in Oujda (March 5), and the Tangier Cultural Complex (March 7). The word “Canceled” now appears on ticketing platforms, and promotional materials have been removed.

This decision confirms the demands of numerous Moroccan internet users and activists who opposed the tour, describing the hosting of Algerian personalities as “unjustified cultural normalization” in response to the “hostile methods” attributed to the eastern neighbor.

Although Abdelkader Secteur’s show was intended to be apolitical social satire, the controversy has reignited the debate over the separation between the artistic sphere and disputes between states, with boycott supporters believing that defending national sovereignty takes priority over cultural offerings.
