2021 Africa Cup of Nations Rescheduled for January Due to Cameroon’s Climate

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be held from January 9 to February 6, 2021 in Cameroon, contrary to the summer period. This decision was made to remain in line with the climatic conditions of the host country.
The 2021 AFCON will not be played during the summer, usually considered a rainy season in Cameroon. "Across the entire territory, from north to south, east to west, the period from June to September corresponds to the main rainy season. In Douala, for example, during this period, it rains daily," said the Cameroonian Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, during a joint meeting of Cameroonian authorities and African Football Confederation (CAF) officials.
On this occasion, the CAF president convinced Cameroon to move the date of the competition to winter. According to an official source, this proposal received the approval of the host country, which agreed on the period from January 9 to February 6, 2021.
However, this change must still be ratified at the next meeting of the CAF Executive Committee, which will take place on the sidelines of the African Futsal Cup, from January 28 to February 7, in Laâyoune.
"I am convinced that the Cameroonian people will experience this Africa Cup of Nations with exceptional popular fervor, because the passion for football that exists in this country is unique, incomparable, inimitable," said Ahmad Ahmad.
