96-Year-Old Moroccan Woman Beats COVID-19, Challenging Age Risk Assumptions

The thesis that the coronavirus necessarily kills the elderly has just been challenged by the spectacular recovery of a 96-year-old Moroccan woman.
In Morocco, "the elderly and patients taken care of when they were already at an advanced stage or in critical condition, are not necessarily doomed," said the director of epidemiology and disease control at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi.
The case of this cured patient, who will soon be 100 years old, is a tangible example. According to Mohamed El Youbi, she was placed, like some cases, "in intensive care for about two weeks," before being completely out of danger. He also recalled during his briefing that "the epidemic is now spreading through small outbreaks of contamination," within families for example. Another important detail he raised is that among 9,984 contact people tested since the beginning of the epidemic, 689 tested positive, and 4,491 are still under medical supervision.
As for the geographical distribution of the disease, Mohamed El Youbi indicated that the Casablanca-Settat region remains the most affected by the pandemic. It is followed by Marrakech-Safi, then Rabat-Kenitra and Fez-Meknes. The lowest rate was recorded in the two southern regions.
