Yassir Zabiri joins Mbappé and Yamal among La Liga’s top scorers
Seven goals in eight matches, with no penalties: Yassir Zabiri is enjoying a remarkable start to the season in Spain. The 21-year-old Moroccan striker has joined Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal in the La Liga scoring charts after finding the net again against Valencia.

Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Sergio Camello… and Yassir Zabiri. The young Moroccan at Racing Santander has joined the Spanish league’s leading scorers. On Sunday, October 11, he scored his seventh goal of the season in a 2-2 draw with Valencia CF. The feat puts him level with the strikers from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, the EFE news agency reports.

In the 32nd minute, with Racing trailing after Dani Raba’s opening goal, Zabiri popped up to equalize from an Íñigo Vicente pass. The Cantabrians then took the lead through Iván Martín, before conceding David Otorbi’s equalizer in the second half.
With seven goals in eight matchdays, the Moroccan now shares second place in the scoring charts with Mbappé, Yamal and Camello. Only Raphinha has done better: the Brazilian Barça striker leads the way with twelve goals, five clear of the rest.
Seven goals without taking a single penalty
Zabiri’s efficiency is all the more remarkable because none of his seven goals has come from the penalty spot. The 21-year-old has quickly established himself as one of Racing Santander’s main attacking assets after the club’s promotion to Spain’s top division this season.
Yet this is Zabiri’s first year in La Liga. When he was still playing in Portugal, he had shared his dream of playing in the Spanish league, whose attacking style he particularly admired. He now finds himself alongside the players he looked up to, while competing with them in front of goal.

Originally from Marrakech, Zabiri came to public attention in October 2025 during Morocco’s historic triumph at the U20 World Cup. After scoring twice in the final against Argentina (2-0), he finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals. His career in Spain is building on that international success.
His performances have already earned recognition from the league organizers. On September 30, La Liga named him its Under-23 Player of the Month for September. He had scored twice against Alavés (2-1), then scored and provided an assist against FC Barcelona (2-7).
