World Bank to Fund Major Irrigation Project in Drought-Stricken Morocco

The World Bank wants to provide financing to Morocco to mitigate the effects of the drought. An important irrigation project is in the process of being approved by the institution’s board to address water scarcity.
Speaking after the meeting he held with the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, the Director of Operations for the Maghreb and Malta at the World Bank (WB), Jesko Hentschel, stated that an important irrigation project was in the works within this international financial institution, to curb the water crisis in Morocco. He also said that the World Bank supports the Generation Green strategy.
The official explained that the World Bank’s program with Morocco is based on three pillars, including support for vulnerable households and families in terms of health and education services.
In addition, the two officials discussed the war in Ukraine and its impacts on Morocco and the world, particularly the rise in prices of raw materials and energy.
