Women Arrested for Alleged Tomb Desecration and Witchcraft in Morocco Face Trial

The trial of a network of women prosecuted for witchcraft and tomb desecration opened this week at the court of first instance of Salé. The judge has already recognized the material existence of all the constituent elements of a criminal act.
It all started with an alert launched by the caretaker of the cemetery located between Rabat and Salé, at the level of the Moulay El Hassan bridge. Upon arrival, the elements of the Bettana-Tabriquet police caught four women in the act of desecrating a tomb, reports Assabah. They had tried to exhume a corpse next to which they intended to bury certain objects such as locks of hair, socks and panties.
The investigators discovered that one of the arrested women had gone to Fez for a "consultation" with the fortune teller of Sidi Moussa. She intended to prevent her husband from taking a second wife. He was summoned but refused to file a complaint against his wife for acts of witchcraft and occult practices.
What next? Placement in custody for the two other married women and placement in detention for the fortune teller in the Al Arjat 1 prison in Salé. The latter is a repeat offender in matters of witchcraft and tomb desecration. These women are now being prosecuted for witchcraft and tomb desecration. Their trial continues.
