Wizz Air Cuts Dortmund-Marrakech Route Amid Base Closures and Capacity Shifts

The airline Wizz Air will end the Dortmund-Marrakech route. This suspension comes after the Hungarian low-cost carrier decided to close its bases in Dortmund and Riga.
Out of the 41 routes in the company’s summer program, the one to Marrakech will be suspended due to the closure of the Dortmund base in Germany at the end of the summer season, reports Air Journal. Wizz Air also announced the closure of its Riga base. Through this measure, Wizz Air intends to reallocate its capacities to better meet the evolution of demand following the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement to ch-aviation, the Hungarian low-cost carrier said it had decided to close its Dortmund base and "take advantage of growth opportunities by reallocating capacity to other high-demand routes". The German city "will remain an integral part of the Wizz Air network and the airline will continue to connect Dortmund to over 30 destinations in Europe, including the popular Sarajevo, Sofia, Belgrade, Budapest and many others," it is specified.
