Wild Boar Population Surge Prompts Control Measures in Rabat Neighborhoods

The regional directorate of water and forests is pursuing its program to combat "the proliferation of wild boar populations" around Dar Essalam and Hay Riad, in Rabat. Residents of the surrounding areas are called to be vigilant.
As part of the monitoring and regulation of wild boar populations, an intervention program is drawn up annually at the sites recording a significant number of wild boars. The regional directorate of water and forests has provided this clarification, in reaction to articles published in certain newspapers, as well as photos and videos posted on social networks.
According to the directorate, the Dar Essalam area and its surroundings have been classified as a "black spot" at which wild boar hunts are organized annually as part of a pre-established regulation program. During the 2018-2019 season, eight wild boar hunts were organized for 36 wild boars killed. As for the current season, four wild boar hunts have been organized since the beginning of January and 32 wild boars have been shot.
"Vigilant and aware of the increase in the number of wild boars and the damage they could cause," the water and forests department is committed "to taking all necessary preventive, administrative and technical measures to regulate wild boar numbers and respond effectively to the expectations of citizens."
