Wild Boar Attacks Surge in Morocco, Residents Demand Action

Wild boars are increasingly invading Mzouda, in the province of Chichaoua. Powerless, the inhabitants call on the authorities for help.
The inhabitants of the douar near Mzouda fear for their lives because of the presence of wild boars that are causing panic. One of them, a girl, was attacked by a wild boar and was seriously injured. These animals that are landing in their agglomeration threaten their safety, especially that of women and young children. Faced with the situation, they have called on the authorities and the competent bodies to intervene as soon as possible before the wild boars destroy everything in their path and wreak havoc among the inhabitants.
In 2018, the Regional Directorate of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification of the Southwest had organized 110 drives, including 63 for the month of December alone as part of a campaign "aimed at controlling wild boar populations". Thus, about 860 wild boars had been shot in the Souss-Massa region since the beginning of the hunting season until December 31, 2018.
