WHO Warns Against School Reopenings as Morocco Faces COVID-19 Surge

The World Health Organization (WHO) is warning against reopening schools in countries with high rates of coronavirus infections. This call is all the more worrying as the start of the school year in Morocco, scheduled for September 7, coincides with the second wave of the virus expansion.
Morocco is one of the countries where the debate on the reopening of schools for the next school year is still open, given the spread of the virus, the increase in infected cases and the instability of the pandemic situation in several cities. But Minister Saïd Amzazi has decided, the start of the school year will be on September 7.
This decision by the minister comes at a time when the Irishman Mike Ryan, director of health emergencies at the WHO, warns against the reopening of schools in countries where the spread of the virus is increasing, stating that this will only worsen the situation.
He added during a press conference: "We all want children to return to schools, but it is necessary that this be done in a safe environment for teachers, students and their families", since children and adolescents are a major vector in contamination.
