WHO Report: Morocco Sees Significant Decline in Smoking Rates

Moroccans smoke less and less. This is revealed by the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO).
While the number of smokers in the world is declining, the same is true in Morocco. The latest WHO report on trends in smoking prevalence 2000-2025 indicates that the number of tobacco consumers in the kingdom has dropped considerably. Even better, it will continue to decline in the coming years.
At the global level, the number of male consumers will decrease by more than one million in 2020 to reach 1.091 billion and by 5 million by 2025 to reach 1.087 billion, the report states. By 2020, WHO projections show a decrease of 10 million in the total number for both sexes compared to 2018 and a further decrease of 27 million by 2025, when it should not exceed 1.299 billion.
"The progress made towards the target of a 30% reduction in smoking by 2025 set by governments remains insufficient," the WHO notes. According to the organization, at the current rate, the reduction will only reach 23% in 2025, with only 32 countries able to cross the 30% mark.
