Western Sahara Conflict Reignites: Polisario Front Ends 30-Year Ceasefire with Morocco

The President of the "Republic and Supreme Commander of the ALPS Armed Forces", Brahim Ghali announces the end of the commitment to the ceasefire signed between the Polisario Front and Morocco in 1991.
Based on the decisions of the extraordinary session of the Polisario Front’s national secretariat held on November 7, 2020, and drawing on the powers conferred on him by the Front’s internal regulations and the constitution of the "SADR", Mr. Ghali has made public a presidential decree announcing the end of the ceasefire commitment and the resumption of hostilities to defend the "legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people".
The decree gives full power to the General Staff Command of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army to take all measures related to the implementation of the requirements of this decree in accordance with the mission assigned to it, it is indicated.
He also mandated the National Security Authority led by the Prime Minister to take the measures related to the implementation of the requirements of the state of war, including the management and administration of national institutions and establishments and the assurance of the regularity of services.
The issuance of this decree follows the resurgence of tensions between Morocco and the Polisario.
