Wealthy Moroccan Family Donates Land for New US Consulate in Dakhla

The members of the Derham family, owners of Atlas Sahara, the leading hydrocarbon distribution company in southern Morocco, have donated a plot of land, which will be used for the construction of the new US Consulate in Dakhla.
The news, published on Wednesday by the Far-Maroc website on its Facebook page, comes a few days after the announcement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the immediate inauguration of a virtual presence post in Dakhla.
Furthermore, the site claims that another major world power, which has a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, will follow in the footsteps of the United States by declaring its recognition of the kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara and by opening a Consulate in the region.
Let us recall that the outgoing US President, Donald Trump, had promulgated on December 12 an immediate effect decree recognizing the full sovereignty of the kingdom over the Moroccan Sahara. To concretize his decision, the president had announced the opening of a Consulate in Dakhla with a primarily economic vocation.
