New Wave of Food Poisoning Cases Hits Tiznit, Morocco as Restaurant Faces Investigation

Just a few days after the judgment handed down by the Tiznit court against the owner of a snack bar at the origin of the poisoning of 38 people, sentencing him to one year in prison and a fine of 20,000 dirhams, as well as compensation of 5,000 dirhams for the civil party, another establishment operating in the same city is the subject of a judicial investigation.
Cases of food poisoning are multiplying in Morocco. Following a complaint filed by a citizen against a restaurant in Tiznit, the police, on the instructions of the public prosecutor’s office, opened an investigation. In this complaint, he reported poisoning and medical symptoms that appeared immediately after consuming a snack in the establishment. A month ago, a joint commission had ordered its closure for two weeks, after the discovery of a quantity of spoiled food inside.
The health and environment cell of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as the competent authority, should produce a final report to allow the security services and the various competent authorities to take the necessary sanctions. The restaurant risks permanent closure and a fine due to its non-compliance with the prevailing conditions and the lack of a license for meal preparation, as the establishment only has a license for sale and service. Its owner faces a prison sentence.
