Water Crisis Sparks Protests in Moroccan Town of Tazroute

The residents of Tazroute, near Larache, have had enough. For months, they have been suffering from repeated and prolonged drinking water cuts, disrupting their daily lives and that of the pilgrims who come to the sanctuary of Moulay Abdessalam. Faced with this situation that they consider intolerable, they have decided to organize an open sit-in starting tomorrow.
"It is a real policy of thirst," denounce the protesters to Alyaoum24. They point the finger at the provincial director of the National Office of Water in Larache, whom they hold "fully responsible" for this crisis. The residents are calling on the governor of the province to intervene urgently to find lasting solutions.
The water cuts in Tazroute have become a real ordeal. Sometimes, several days without a drop of water. And when the precious liquid returns, it is often for just a few hours, leaving the reserves quickly dry. This situation has been repeated throughout last year, without anything being done to remedy it, specifies the same source.
However, the province of Larache has several hill dams. Residents are questioning the reasons for these persistent shortages and are demanding clear explanations.
