The American ambassador to Morocco firmly denounced the recent actions of Polisario on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. By reiterating his unconditional support for the autonomy plan, Duke Buchan demands a swift political solution under Moroccan sovereignty.
On social network X, the diplomat detailed his exchanges with Alexander Ivanko, the head of MINURSO. Duke Buchan confirmed Washington’s commitment to the Kingdom’s sovereignty, considering this option as the only realistic path before the UN Security Council. He thus reiterated a clear guideline: "The United States remains determined to promote peace through the Morocco’s autonomy proposal".

The envoy directly attributed the current deadlock to the separatist movement and its allies. He qualified the latest actions of Polisario as "violence," provoking international outrage according to him. This constant refusal to engage seriously "threatens the progress made," he warned. Demanding genuine political will, he concluded that "peace requires partners willing to negotiate toward a better future".
