Volunteers Unite to Revitalize Essaouira’s Green Belt in Massive Cleanup Effort

In order to give more luster to the green belt of the city of Essaouira, a group of associative actors and foreign residents proceeded on Sunday to a vast environmental clean-up.
As part of this initiative, several associations combined their efforts and benefited from the support of the Provincial Directorate of the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, as well as the teams of the cleaning company "Ozone". In addition to the three associations behind this ecological action, namely "Jeunesse Action", "the Association of Camel Drivers of Essaouira" and "Beach Cleaning", several others joined, including "Au Cœur de l’Amitié", "Moga Jeunes", "Bayti" and "Rmila".
According to Les Ecos, this vast sanitation campaign will have allowed the filling of nearly 200 bags of various waste, mainly plastics, and other debris polluting the soil of this natural area. Proud of the results of this civic action, the organizers are already planning a next collective stage in Essaouira, which will take place on Sunday, January 19, particularly on the beach. Indeed, "this vital space is affected by the high tides and is also invaded by plastic waste, nets and fishing equipment," the organizers point out.
It should be noted that on November 10, another ecological action had mobilized several associative actors, young people and children. There were 150 volunteers who had also cleaned the green belt of Essaouira and collected 3 tons of waste.
All these actions are part of a real policy of waste management and environmental and living environment preservation, as defined in its objectives by the working and reflection group created by Essaouira Territorial Innovation Lab (ETIL), the same source specifies.
