Violent Clashes Erupt at Moroccan Soccer Match: 85 Police Injured, 160 Arrested

Hooliganism is back in Morocco. More than 80 police officers were injured on Sunday following the match between the AS FAR and Maghreb de Fès teams.
The return of supporters to stadiums in Morocco could have waited. Acts of vandalism caused significant material damage to the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat following the match between two Botola teams, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which specifies that many police officers and auxiliary forces were injured, some seriously.
Following these acts, some 160 people were arrested, including 90 minors, the same source said, accusing them of "sports-related vandalism, carrying bladed weapons, manifest drunkenness, stone throwing coupled with the degradation of public and private property, as well as the burning of a vehicle."
According to the same source, 63 agents were admitted to three hospitals in the capital, adding that "a medical staff from the Health Services Inspection of the DGSN is supervising the follow-up of their hospitalization and providing them with the necessary medical assistance."
In addition, 33 vehicles belonging to the police and private individuals, which were outside the stadium, were also damaged during these clashes, while a motorcycle was set on fire.
An investigation has been opened to try to identify and arrest all the people involved in these incidents.
