Vandals Target New Casablanca Buses, Two Teens Arrested

48 hours after being put into service, nine of the 450 buses in the Casablanca fleet were vandalized by two young people. They were apprehended thanks to the surveillance cameras on the new buses.
Aged between 16 and 17, these two young boys caused enormous damage to the buses. They also injured a line 11 bus driver whose terminus is Salmia 2. For Mehdi Safwane, general manager of Alsa Al Baida, the delegated management company, the vandalized buses serve the Tacharouk, Oulfa, Maarif and Anassi neighborhoods.
In a statement, the Casablanca prefecture announced that the arrest of the young people took place a few hours after their act of vandalism. The cameras installed on each bus send images of the suspects’ gestures and actions to a monitoring platform installed at the company’s headquarters. They would be at the origin of these arrests.
