Uruguayan Cargo Ship Runs Aground off Morocco Coast; 8 Crew Rescued, 1 Missing

The Moroccan authorities have rescued the passengers of a commercial ship that ran aground off M’diq, near Marina Smir. There are eight crew members.
This ship left Uruguay for Lebanon, but an engine failure in unfavorable sailing conditions caused it to run aground on the Moroccan coast, according to the local authorities of M’diq-Fnideq. The mobilization of the rescue services made it possible to save eight members of the crew and the search is ongoing to find the only person still reported missing.
In addition to rescuing the crew members, the rescuers tried to secure the coasts against pollution in case there were fuel leaks from the ship’s tank. A military helicopter and all the necessary equipment were deployed for this task.
