Unlicensed Guides in Marrakech Use Fake Medical Certificates to Evade Arrest

A new form of fraud is currently rampant in Marrakech. Unlicensed tourist guides have found a trick to escape the authorities. They brandish fake medical certificates to avoid arrest.
This stratagem follows an incident that occurred on December 23. An illegal guide, who was diabetic, had fainted after his arrest at the tourist brigade on Jemaa El-Fna square. He died a few days later, despite being sentenced to a prison term, reports Kech24.
Since then, many "fake guides" have been using this sad story to their advantage. Armed with fake medical certificates attesting to illnesses such as diabetes or asthma, they present them to the law enforcement during checks. This method, which allows them to circumvent the law, has become, according to a well-informed source, a real source of pride among these fraudulent guides.
Faced with this situation, the authorities remain vigilant. It should be recalled that the majority of unlicensed tourist guides have recently been prosecuted in a state of arrest and sentenced to custodial sentences. The Moroccan justice system has decided to crack down on this fraud that harms the image of tourism in the ochre city.
