Universal Coronavirus Vaccine Enters Clinical Trials in 2022, Researchers Say

A team of researchers led by Professor Lbachir Benmohamed, a Moroccan immunologist, announces for the end of 2021 the start of clinical trials of a vaccine designed to fight all variants of the coronavirus.
Already reassured by the ongoing pre-clinical phase on 15 vaccine candidates, these researchers hope "to achieve a universal vaccine for humanity." Because, explains the immunologist, the future vaccine, containing 25 proteins, will be able to treat all types of coronavirus and not just the SARS-CoV-2 virus, unlike Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson&Johnson, based on a single Spike protein.
On Europe1, the Moroccan researcher, Professor Lbachir Benmohamed, head of the cellular and molecular immunology laboratory affiliated with the University of California, notes that the ideal is not to focus research on developing a vaccine only against Covid-19 but to "anticipate future pandemics to achieve a universal vaccine and protect humanity."
"The pre-clinical trial phase is being practiced on immunized mice and subsequently exposed to coronavirus variants to see which of these 15 vaccines will better protect. The best vaccine will move on to clinical trials by the end of 2021 or early 2022," he promised.
According to Prof. Lbachir Benmohamed, "2020 is the revolutionary year of vaccines thanks to advances in messenger RNA." "It is possible to develop vaccines in six months as for the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines."
