Turkish Tourist Fined $2,000 for Unauthorized Parachute Flight Over Tangier

In Tangier, the customs services imposed a fine of 20,000 dirhams on a Turkish tourist, who flew over the city by parachute without prior authorization.
The apprehension of the offender took place during a check at Tangier airport, during which the dirigible balloon was discovered, reports Al Akhbar, specifying that the tourist was about to leave the country.
The preliminary investigation carried out by the customs services revealed that the defendant had introduced the dirigible balloon into the national territory without having obtained prior authorization. He also flew over Tangier without the agreement of the local authorities.
This act is prohibited in Morocco, as the law in force provides for penalties in the event of non-declaration of this equipment. Not to mention that the defendant introduced a parachute without going through official channels and this in the framework of the protection of the national territory, in particular against drug trafficking operations. The tourist was fined 20,000 dirhams while his equipment was seized by the customs officers.
However, the offender, who claims to be an amateur of air sports, filed a complaint with the competent prosecutor’s office to challenge the customs decision and demand its cancellation, knowing, he says, that the price of the dirigible balloon is close to the amount of the fine imposed on him.
