Tuberculosis Surge in Morocco Raises Alarm as Cases Reach 37,000

Tuberculosis is a highly contagious infectious disease. According to the National Association for Tuberculosis Awareness and Control, if drastic measures are not taken urgently, the pandemic risk could threaten the Moroccan capital, [Rabat].
In a statement, the Association warns against the prevalence of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the absence of medical care, exposing citizens to the risk of contagion.
According to the Association, no preventive measures have been taken by the [Ministry of Health], despite the seriousness and persistence of the scourge that threatens the city in particular and Moroccan citizens in general.
In 2018, the number of tuberculosis patients in Morocco reached 37,000 cases, with 9% not receiving any medical follow-up. These figures remain approximate, especially since the epidemic focus of the disease is spreading mainly among the underprivileged social strata.
It should be noted that the kingdom has set itself the goal of completely eradicating this disease by 2030.
