Trump Taps Former GlaxoSmithKline Vaccine Chief to Lead COVID-19 Vaccine Development

U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Moroccan expert Moncef Slaoui, former head of GlaxoSmithKline Plc’s vaccine division, to co-lead the operation to develop a vaccine against the new coronavirus with Gustave Perna, a U.S. general.
According to the U.S. agency Bloomberg, Dr. Moncef Slaoui, 60, will voluntarily oversee this initiative known as Operation Warp Speed.
Thanks to this Trump administration project, 300 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available by the end of the year.
According to the biotechnology expert, the clinical study began on March 25. "So we are testing this vaccine. We will be sure of its protective potential in the coming months. By the end of the year, probably, we will know if it works and we can produce it," he added.
