Trial Begins for Moroccan-Turkish Human Trafficking Ring Accused of Exploiting Girls

Seven individuals arrested earlier this year for their alleged involvement in a network trafficking Moroccan girls to Turkey have just been brought before the Criminal Chamber at the Court of Appeal in Rabat.
Since their arrest by the Moroccan authorities, in coordination with Interpol, this is the first time the defendants, detained in the El Arjate prison, have been brought before an investigating judge. The seven accused, "four Turkish individuals and three Moroccan individuals, including a woman in her thirties," were subjected to lengthy interrogation, according to sources at the daily Al Akhbar.
The interrogation took place in the presence of the woman who is at the origin of this judicial procedure. The plaintiff, who has joined the civil party, has requested that the seven accused be convicted for "human trafficking, kidnapping, sequestration, violence and torture". The defendants were also confronted with other victims of the criminal network of which they are members, and specialized in the trafficking of Moroccan girls to Turkey.
After hearing them, the Attorney General of the King in charge of this case and the investigating judge decided to continue the seven individuals in detention. At the request of the defense, their trial will open at the end of September.
