Trial Begins for Moroccan Man Accused of Fatal Stabbing in Granada, Spain

The trial of the Moroccan who stabbed another Moroccan to death in Alhama de Granada opens tomorrow, Monday, at the provincial court of Granada. The prosecution has requested a 20-year prison sentence against him.

It is a popular jury that will decide the fate of the Moroccan who allegedly killed his compatriot during a dispute in a house they shared in Ventas de Zafarraya, in the municipality of Alhama de Granada. The defendant has been in pre-trial detention since September 6, 2019, after committing his crime in the early morning of September 3 of the same year, the prosecution recalled in the indictment to which Europa Press had access.

After having "a few cans of beer for dinner", the accused would have seized a "large knife about 20 or 25 centimeters long" and, taking advantage of the victim’s drunkenness, would have then stabbed him several times in the back at the chest level. The victim succumbed to his injuries "a few minutes later", the prosecution specified, which has requested 20 years in prison against the defendant.

The trial, which opens on Monday and is scheduled to last until Friday, March 11, will allow the popular jury to decide on the guilt or innocence of the accused. As for the victim, he leaves behind a widow and two children aged nine and five living in Morocco.
