Trial Begins for Two Men Accused in Fatal Lyon Bridge Incident

Friday 28 June 2024, by Said

Three years after the tragic disappearance of Houssin Ouhaj, thrown from a bridge in Lyon on the night of June 12 to 13, 2021, two men are appearing this Thursday and Friday before the departmental criminal court of the Rhône. They are accused of "failure to assist a person in danger" and "fatal blows".

The four friends from Oyonnax, rather drunk after a well-watered evening, find themselves accosted by a group of individuals on the banks of the Rhône, at the level of the Pont Wilson. Tension rises, a fight breaks out. Houssin Ouhaj, a mere spectator to the scene, finds himself unjustly targeted.

Far from being involved in the altercation, the young Moroccan, who does not know how to swim, suffers the wrath of a blind vengeance. The largest of the accused grabs him and throws him into the river. The others, passive witnesses to the drama, watch without reaction as Houssin disappears, who will be found drowned three days later.

Facing the court, the accused will try to explain their gesture. The main suspect, denying any intention to kill, will claim that Houssin Ouhaj, thinking he knew how to swim, could have reached the shore. A fragile version, undermined by the testimonies and the elements of the file.
