Tragic Death of 6-Year-Old After Routine Tonsil Surgery Sparks Investigation in Agadir
A six-year-old girl died on Tuesday in a clinic in Agadir, after undergoing a surgical operation to have her tonsils removed. Her family suspects a medical error.
Yousra’s family attributes responsibility for her death to the nurses who performed the anesthesia before the surgical operation. Her relatives believe she would still be alive if it had been an anesthesiologist who had taken care of her, adding that their daughter had undergone all the required tests before this surgical intervention.
In a written question addressed to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, MP Khalid Chennak expressed his deep sadness at this tragedy, calling for the urgent opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances of the girl’s death "who underwent a simple surgical operation to remove the tonsils in a private clinic on the evening of Tuesday, June 25."
The Istiqlali group MP also deplored "the recurring deaths of children due to negligence in some private clinics that only aim for profit," hoping that the "transparent and impartial" investigation that will be opened will make it possible to identify the responsibilities, sanction the perpetrators of Yousra’s death and prevent the occurrence of new deaths of innocents, most of whom are minors.
