Tragic Alpha Jet Crash Near Fès Airport Claims Lives of Two Moroccan Air Force Pilots

A training Alpha Jet of the Royal Moroccan Air Force crashed this Monday near the Fès-Saïss airport, resulting in the death of its two pilots. The accident occurred during the landing phase of a training mission.
The aircraft, coming from the Meknès base, would have lost control during its final approach. The impact on the ground caused an explosion, and the rescue services that arrived on the scene were unable to save the crew.
The military authorities have secured the area and opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident. A technical committee is examining the hypotheses of a material failure, a piloting error or bad weather conditions.
The crash occurs as the air force was intensifying its exercises. The Alpha Jet, in service for several decades, remains an essential aircraft for the advanced training of the kingdom’s fighter pilots.
The Fès-Saïss airport, which shares its infrastructure with the military base, had experienced a minor incident a year ago. While civilian traffic is not interrupted, the investigation could temporarily affect operations. For now, the authorities have not communicated on the identity of the victims or the maintenance status of the aircraft.
