Torrential Rains Destroy Recently Built Road in Morocco, Sparking Corruption Concerns

The recent torrential rains that hit the Drâa-Tafilalet region have not only caused considerable material damage, but have also highlighted serious flaws in the construction of certain road infrastructures.
The most striking example is that of regional road No. 706 connecting Rich to Imilchil in the province of Midelt. Rebuilt less than three years ago for several tens of millions of dirhams, this road has been literally pulverized by the bad weather, provoking the indignation of the inhabitants and Internet users.
On social networks, accusations of corruption and embezzlement are flying. The work would have been rushed, the preliminary studies deficient, and the materials used of poor quality. "Fraud in the construction of the road caused its collapse," can be read in many comments. The torrential rains would have only revealed what was already apparent to many: public money has been squandered.
Regional and provincial officials who validated this work and allowed these dubious practices are being pointed out. It also raises the question of quality control of public infrastructure and the fight against corruption in the entire sector.
The inhabitants of the entire Midelt region are left with an impassable road and a bitter feeling. Some Internet users are demanding answers and exemplary sanctions against those responsible for this fiasco.
