Toddler Survives Scorpion Sting in Morocco After Hospital Transfer for Antidote

On Wednesday evening, a one-and-a-half-year-old baby was the victim of a scorpion sting in Sidi ghanem, in the Chichaoua region. His parents had to rush him to the provincial hospital in the city to prevent the sting from causing the baby’s death.
Arrived at the provincial hospital in Chichaoua, they were asked to go to the Marrakech Hospital Center, the doctors having announced the lack of antidote in their services.
Placed in intensive care under medical supervision, the baby’s condition was stabilized thanks to the medical service which was finally able to administer the antidote to him.
This type of incident often occurs in clinics and hospital services located in rural areas, where the lack of antidote forces the relatives of patients to travel long distances to get treatment.
The number of people victims of scorpion stings and snake bites in Morocco is estimated at 30,000 per year, according to figures revealed last year by the Ministry of Health.
