TikTok Faces Backlash from Moroccan Content Moderators Over Working Conditions

Moroccan content moderators are not happy with TikTok. They denounce psychological distress and low wages.
Current and former Moroccan content moderators are facing similar issues to those concerning Meta (formerly Facebook) in Kenya: lack of psychological support, performance pressure. Nine current and former content moderators in Morocco have described experiences of severe psychological distress following their jobs with subcontractor companies, reveals the media Business Insider which conducted an investigation on the issue. According to their testimonies, the subcontractor companies set them impossible targets to achieve.
They mention videos of suicide and cruelty to animals, and work that made them feel more like robots than human beings. They claim to be paid less than $3 an hour. "Even though the subcontractor company offers internal wellness counselors, they were not enough to help them cope with the pressures of the role," some reviewers said.
