Thyroid Patients in Morocco Face Critical Shortage of Levothyrox Medication

Patients continue to face the unavailability of the "Levothyrox" product, yet essential for the treatment of thyroid disorders. They call on the government to come to their aid.
"Levothyrox" is often unavailable in pharmacies. "Despite the pressure from consumers, pharmacists try to limit the sale of this drug in order to be able to supply the maximum number of people," internal sources tell Maroc Diplomatique.
On social networks, many patients suffering from hypothyroidism (lack of thyroid hormones in the body) or having undergone a thyroidectomy (surgical removal of the thyroid gland) say they are having trouble obtaining supplies due to the unavailability of the product. Yet this is a product that some patients must consume for life to preserve their health. Faced with this desperate situation, they call on the government for help.
Last August, the former Minister of Health had announced in a press release that "the market has been supplied with around 240,000 new boxes of this drug, to be added to the 500,000 others imported between July 15 and August 8".
Similarly, "the only laboratory in Morocco importing this drug should receive 400,000 boxes in November". Unfortunately, the "Levothyrox" product is still unavailable to the great despair of patients who express their dire need for it.
