Thousands in Morocco Protest Israeli Actions, Denounce Diplomatic Ties

Several demonstrations against Israel and in support of Palestine were organized on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in several Moroccan cities including Casablanca and Rabat. The protesters condemned an escalation of violence in recent days, as well as the normalization agreement between Morocco and the Hebrew state.

Moroccans are joining the dynamic being created on an international scale and have organized several demonstrations against Israel and in support of Palestine. There were nearly a thousand people who demonstrated in Rabat to condemn "the violence perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians" and the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Hebrew state. The protesters chanted: "Free Palestine, Zionists get out" or "The people want the fall of normalization". They also burned Israeli flags.
The same observation in several other Moroccan cities, including Casablanca and Marrakech. In videos broadcast live on social networks, we see many protesters calling for "the liberation of Palestine" and "the abolition of normalization".
A sit-in of solidarity with Palestine was organized in Rabat during the day on Saturday, at the initiative of political, associative and human rights actors. The protesters urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel to respect the resolutions of the international community and to put an end to its atrocities against the Palestinian people.
