Thousands of Jewish Pilgrims Gather in Moroccan City for Historic Torah Ceremony

More than a thousand Jews gathered at the Synagogue founded by Rabbi Haim Pinto in Essaouira. Coming from around the world, they gathered at the tomb of this Saint and reconnected with their Moroccan roots.
Founded more than 150 years ago, this synagogue is hosting the installation of a Torah scroll. It coincides with the beginning of the month of Kislev. It is for this celebration that the Jewish community gathered in the city of the trade winds, reports 2M.
In the synagogue, visitors of all generations chant hymns. For Jacob and Simon, two Moroccan Jews, present for the meditation, it is a renewed joy to come back every year to these places to pray and meditate. They feel at home and they thanked the Moroccan state for the security system put in place.
Essaouira, the port and tourist city on the Moroccan Atlantic coast, remains a land of peace and coexistence for the Jewish communities which, in the 1950s, numbered 360,000 compared to only 2,000 people today.
In addition, the Mausoleum of Rabbi Haim Pinto located in the seaside cemetery has also opened its doors to visitors.
