Thousands Gather in Morocco for Rabbi Haïm Pinto Pilgrimage After Pandemic Pause

After two years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the celebration of the Hiloula of Rabbi Haïm Pinto took place in Essaouira.
This year, more than 2,000 Moroccan Jews flocked to Essaouira to celebrate the Hiloula of Rabbi Haïm Pinto on the anniversary of his death. Moroccan author Ahmed Ghayet posted a video on his Facebook page showing hundreds of Moroccan Jews eager to celebrate the Hiloula of Rabbi Haïm Pinto. In this video, they can be seen singing and dancing while holding photos of King Mohammed VI and waving the Moroccan flag. A way for them to express their attachment to their homeland.
"I’m sure they [Israeli tourists] will enjoy discovering this wonderful historic city [Essaouira] that I personally love," tweets David Eyal, the deputy head of the Israeli mission in Rabat. For his part, Rabbi David Hanania Pinto, the fifth descendant of Rabbi Chaim Pinto, shared a video of the Jewish community commemorating the occasion with a wide range of rituals, including visiting the synagogue and the mausoleum of Haim Pinto.
