Tetouan Court Delays Burglary Trial, Summons New Witnesses

The Court of Appeal of Tetouan has decided to postpone to April the examination of the case of the burglary of the home of a Moroccan residing abroad (MRE), committed in 2020. New witnesses have been summoned for this next session.

The court postponed the case to next month following the appearance of the main accused, M. M., as well as the other witnesses, during the hearing that took place this month. The court took the opportunity to cancel the procedure of trial by default initiated against the accused who had presented a medical certificate to miss the previous hearing.

New witnesses will appear at the next session scheduled for April. The court will try to establish a link between the latter and the main accused in this case which dates back to 2020.

It all started with a complaint filed by a Moroccan residing abroad claiming that her home had been burgled.

The file had been closed without further action. But the victim’s lawyer managed to reopen the investigation, after noting inconsistencies in the reports of the judicial police which do not trace certain statements of his client. Relatives of the MRE, including a brother-in-law, would be involved in this theft. The latter is the subject of a national search warrant.

The new witnesses summoned for the April hearing are suspected of being involved in the transport or fencing of the stolen goods. According to sources close to the case, this session will be decisive for the continuation of the case, as it will provide new information on the people involved and the circumstances of this burglary.
