Tensions Escalate: Morocco-Algeria Rift Deepens Over Western Sahara and Israel Ties

For a year, Algeria has cut ties with Morocco, notably over the Sahara issue. The tensions between the two countries are far from subsiding.
The Jerusalem Post devoted an article to the crisis between Algeria and Morocco. The newspaper mentions Algeria’s obsession with the kingdom. "The restoration of Moroccan-Israeli relations, greeted by incessant Algerian attacks and hostility, is just one of the most recent illustrations of the huge gulf that separates the two countries," notes the author of the article, noting that "between the Algerian regime and the Kingdom of Morocco, it is safe to say that relations will not improve anytime soon."
To support its argument, the publication notes that beyond the Sahara issue, each of the two countries is developing visions and philosophies of the world and their respective futures that are diametrically opposed. "The last two speeches (the throne speech and that of the king and the people, editor’s note) of King Mohammed VI have recalled this harsh reality which is no secret, which has led to the panic of the Algerian propaganda machine."
To read:
"In his last Throne Speech, King Mohammed VI held the Algerian authorities responsible, calling for the relaunch of the Maghreb. The Moroccan and Algerian peoples dream of this regional union which, if it became a reality, would open up new prospects for young Maghrebis and offer an expanded field of action for trade and investment."
