Teen’s Arson Antics End When a Woman Said to Be His Mother Shows Up
A burning trash can, a high school student fleeing and a mother determined to take him home. Filmed outside a French school, the scene involving a woman described as Moroccan sparked a wave of laughter on social media.

The young man clearly wasn’t expecting this visit. On Friday, October 2, outside Edmond-Michelet High School in Arpajon, Essonne, a teenager with his face covered takes part in a blockade at his school. He kicks a burning trash can as several classmates look on. A few moments later, a woman appears and chases after him.
“That’s his mother!” exclaims a witness filming the scene. The boy hurries away with the woman in pursuit, while the other students burst out laughing. The video, posted on X, quickly goes viral, attracting the attention of several French media outlets, including Le Figaro and Marie France.
A Moroccan mother becomes “mother of the week”
The story then crossed borders. On October 8, Al Jazeera devoted a report to the woman, describing her as Moroccan and dubbing her “mother of the week.” The network looks at the reactions from internet users, many of whom praised her determination.
“Well done and respect, ma’am,” and “A responsible mom!” are among the comments quoted by Le Figaro. Other internet users joke about the contrast between the boy’s behavior in front of his classmates and his flight when the woman they believe to be his mother arrives.
The scene comes as high school blockades are becoming more common in France, sometimes accompanied by property damage. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin has also asked prosecutors to hold parents civilly liable when their minor children cause damage.
