Tangier Trial Ridouan Taghi Mocro Maffia Drug Trafficking

Prosecuted for attempted murder and drug trafficking, a suspect linked to the famous Dutch criminal network appeared Thursday before the Tangier court of appeal. He is accused of acting as an informant for baron Ridouan Taghi.

This trial opens following a rogatory commission transmitted by Dutch authorities to Moroccan justice. Targeted by a red notice before his arrest in Tangier, the defendant faces very serious accusations. He is notably charged with criminal gang formation, possession of weapons without authorization, aggravated theft and hard drug trafficking. Added to these are prosecutions for attempted murder with premeditation by firearm and attempted arson on vehicles.

During his interrogation, the individual named Youssef denied all the charges against him. The magistrate nevertheless confronted him with Dutch police investigations tracing his calls and movements. He is suspected of having monitored the movements of a target to be eliminated. The hearing also addressed weapons seized in a house in the Netherlands, a burned Maserati car, as well as his own previous statements admitting three meetings in Dubai with Ridouan Taghi, who was then calling himself "Fouad".

In his defense, the accused proclaimed his innocence, claiming that his name was simply mentioned by another detainee. He specified that he is currently serving a sentence of two years and four months imposed by a Casablanca court for another drug case in a customs zone. Justice closely links his activities to Ridouan Taghi, alleged leader of the "Mocro Maffia" who collaborated with the "Angels of Death" gang. The latter is now imprisoned in the Netherlands for murders, directing a criminal organization and international cocaine trafficking.
