Tangier Train Station Chaos: Lawmaker Demands Action Amid Tourist Season Congestion

The Tangier station is experiencing severe congestion to the point that some travelers were unable to access their trains. Concerned about this ongoing situation, the deputy of the Party of Progress and Socialism in the House of Representatives, Loubna Sghiri, calls on the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, to take urgent measures.

During a parliamentary question session, Loubna Sghiri questioned the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, about the various malfunctions, disorder and heavy influx observed at the Tangier station, at the peak of the city’s tourist activity. "Travelers at Tangier station, who hope for a calm and comfortable journey, find themselves plunged into an ocean of crowds and confusion. The day begins at the station with long, tangled queues, where travelers wait their turn to get information or change a ticket. The congestion is not limited to the halls, it also extends to the train platform, creating a chaotic situation," said the PPS elected representative.

She deplores the lack of information on train schedules. "Moreover, there is a lack of information on train schedules, which plunges travelers into a state of confusion and questioning. The electronic boards are often out of service or display incorrect and inaccurate information. The loudspeakers broadcast incomprehensible announcements," added the parliamentarian. She says she is surprised by the "wall of silence faced by travelers expressing their discontent or seeking solutions to their problems, as there is no clearly identifiable person to whom they can turn to file their complaints, and there is no effective system to receive and process these complaints."

Sghiri also seeks to know "the reasons that have led to this deplorable situation in which this station finds itself, which should nevertheless be an example of organization and efficiency." She has therefore called on Abdeljalil’s department to take "urgent measures to improve the information and communication system, to provide trained staff for customer management, to create an effective complaint handling system guaranteeing travelers the assistance they need, and to make the station a place that reflects respect and esteem for travelers, instead of being a source of frustration and stress."
