According to several sources, the factory belongs to an influential family in the city. A previous fire had already affected the factory in 2022, leading the authorities to investigate the working conditions of the employees, compliance with safety standards and the validity of its operating license. Rumors had then circulated about a possible closure of the factory.
The factory had also been criticized for polluting the Merkala beach, following the observation of dye substance discharges by an inspection commission. Faced with this new incident, the local authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to shed light on the causes of the fire. A commission will be tasked with inspecting the factory and verifying its compliance with the regulations in force.
