Tangier Region Invests 100 Million DH to Boost COVID-19 Healthcare Capacity

In an effort to strengthen the health sector in the north of the country during these times of Covid-19, the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, the Regional Health Directorate and the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDN) have approved a convention with a budget of 100 million DH.
This grant will allow the improvement of the health offer in the region. Since the beginning of the pandemic, many complaints have been recorded about the inability of the system to effectively cope with a health crisis of this kind. The situation became glaring last July, when Tangier experienced the peak of infections, reports L’Économiste.
It is now up to the Regional Health Delegation to define the needs of each region and to ensure the availability of specific medicines and equipment in the hospitals dedicated to the reception and treatment of Covid-19 cases. It will also be responsible for strengthening the human resources allocated to this pandemic in the region.
The convention also provides for the establishment of laboratories to carry out Covid-19 screening tests. The region has only four laboratories for an impressive number of requests, the same source specifies.
