Tangier Police Raid Hookah Cafes, Arrest 10 for Illegal Alcohol Sales

The police arrested Saturday 10 people in two cafeterias dedicated to hookahs, but which were illegally selling alcohol.
The Moroccan police, alerted by neighbors of the "Chilout" and "QC" cafeterias, carried out a raid in the two establishments and found bottles of mineral water filled with whiskey. In total, 10 people, including the managers of the two cafes, as well as several customers, were arrested, reports Tanja24.
The accused, charged with illegal alcohol trafficking, were brought before the judge of the court of first instance of Tangier who ordered the opening of an investigation. The police will continue their operation in the hookah cafes engaged in alcohol trafficking in order to put an end to the illegal sale of this substance.
The sale and consumption of alcohol are prohibited but tolerated in Morocco. The product is available in the main supermarkets of the kingdom, but at an exorbitant price. Tourists consume it without any problem in certain bars and restaurants located in the main cities.
The announcement of the organization in October of the first beer festival, "Oktoberfest", in Casablanca, sparked a flood of criticism on social networks, forcing the German Chamber of Commerce in Rabat to remove the related posts from its social networks and its website.
